Holding Possibility and Uncertainty in 2025

As we approach 2025, there’s a unique energy in the air—equal parts excitement and apprehension. While some people are brimming with optimism, others seem to be waiting for the proverbial "other shoe to drop." I try to remember to lean into possibility, but I also acknowledge the anxiety many are feeling. The world feels full of conflict and on the verge of major changes, both in the U.S. and around the globe. This uncertainty raises a crucial question: how do we prepare for what’s ahead and at the same time, create more stability in our lives?

There’s no universal solution that fits everyone, but there are some foundational practices that can support both our wellbeing and outlook on life. Here are three suggestions:

1. Lean Into Your Community

Community is a vital source of connection and healing—and it even contributes to longevity. As an introvert, my instinct is often to retreat into my own space. While I honor that need, I’ve also learned the value of prioritizing community. For instance, I schedule regular calls with friends who live far away, making sure to set up the next call before we hang up. I also plan weekly walks with nearby friends. These simple acts keep me grounded and connected.

2. Cultivate Healthy Habits

Whether we realize it or not, we’re constantly creating habits. The key is to do so with intention. Take an inventory of your current habits and ask yourself if they’re serving your overall wellbeing. For example, I noticed I’d fallen into the routine of watching movies or shows close to bedtime, even though I tell myself I want to be screen-free during that hour. Recognizing this misalignment gives me a chance to realign my actions with my desired outcomes.

3. Spend Time Getting Centered

Finding moments of centeredness is essential for navigating life’s uncertainties. For me, meditation is my go-to practice, but centering can take many forms: listening to music, walking in nature, fishing, gardening, cooking, or even taking a long bath. The goal is to shift from “doing” to “being.” When you immerse yourself in an activity that brings joy and ease, you create space for flow—a state where time seems to disappear, and effort feels effortless.

These practices don’t have to be monumental to be impactful. Small, intentional changes can make a big difference over time. For instance, I’m setting an alarm an hour before bedtime to remind me to turn off screens and focus on preparing for rest. Just the thought of that shift makes me happy. (I'll keep you posted on my progress 😉 -- Look out for my upcoming post on strategies for building healthy habits that last!).

What small gift will you give yourself to support your wellbeing in 2025?

Wishing you wellness,
